چکیده

A probabilistically Checkable Proof (PCP) allows a randomized verifier, with oracle access to a purported proof, to probabilistically verify an input statement of the form “x ∈ L” by querying only few bits of the proof. A PCP of proximity (PCPP) has the additional feature of allowing the verifier to query only few bits of the input x, where if the input is accepted then the verifier is guaranteed that (with high probability) the input is close to some x′ ∈ L. Motivated by their usefulness for sublinear-communication cryptography, we initiate the study of a natural zero-knowledge variant of PCPP (ZKPCPP), where the view of any verifier making a bounded number of queries can be efficiently simulated by making the same number of queries to the input oracle alone. This new notion provides a useful extension of the standard notion of zero-knowledge PCPs. We obtain two

Short Non-interactive Zero-Knowledge Proofs

We show that probabilistically checkable proofs can be used to shorten non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs. We obtain publicly verifiable non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs for circuit satisfiability with adaptive and unconditional soundness where the size grows quasi-linearly in the number of gates. The zero-knowledge property relies on the existence of trapdoor permutations, or it can be...

A Note on Almost Perfect Probabilistically Checkable Proofs of Proximity

Probabilistically checkable proofs of proximity (PCPP) are proof systems where the verifier is given a 3SAT formula, but has only oracle access to an assignment and a proof. The verifier accepts a satisfying assignment with a valid proof, and rejects (with high enough probability) an assignment that is far from all satisfying assignments (for any given proof). In this work, we focus on the type...

Randomness and Computation

The interplay of randomness and computation is at the heart of modern Cryptography and plays a fundamental role in the design of algorithms and in the study of computation at large. Specifically, this interplay is pivotal to several intriguing notions of probabilistic proof systems (e.g., interactive proofs, zero-knowledge proofs, and probabilistically checkable proofs), is the focal of the com...

Zero Knowledge Protocols from Succinct Constraint Detection

We study the problem of constructing proof systems that achieve both soundness and zero knowledge unconditionally (without relying on intractability assumptions). Known techniques for this goal are primarily combinatorial, despite the fact that constructions of interactive proofs (IPs) and probabilistically checkable proofs (PCPs) heavily rely on algebraic techniques to achieve their properties...

Probabilistically Checkable Proofs: A Primer

Probabilistically checkable proofs are proofs that can checked probabilistically by reading very few bits of the proof. Roughly ten years back it was shown that proofs could be made probabilistically checkable with a modest increase in their size. While the initial proofs were a little too complex, a recent proof due to Irit Dinur gives a dramatically simple (and radically new) construction of ...
